Week Three - Baptism in Water

Discussion Points

Discuss these points with your mentor or group

  • Considering what we learnt about baptism and its relationship with the church community, what are your thoughts on someone being baptised privately outside of your church family?

  • What preparations do you think someone should make or go through prior to being baptised?

  • How is baptism portrayed in the lives of key biblical figures such as Jesus and the apostles? What can we learn from these examples about the role of baptism in Christian life?

Read and discuss the following scriptures

Matthew 3:13-17 – Baptism of Jesus
Jesus being baptised which marks the beginning of his public ministry

Matthew 28:19-20 The Great Commission
Jesus instructs his disciples to go and make disciples and baptise them

Acts 2:38-41 – Baptism by the Apostles
Peter instructs the crowd to repent and be baptised

Acts 8: 36-38 – Philip baptizing Ethiopian Eunuch
The Eunuch requests immediate baptism after being saved

Romans 6:3-4 Paul talks on baptism
Paul explains through baptism we are transformed
Its clear baptism wasn’t just practiced but also deeply valued in the early Christian community as a sign of faith, repentance and entry into the life of Christ.
